as of now, i am combining this blog with abby's blog into a brand-spanking-new one. the new blog can be found at:
www.the-rogersfamily.blogspot.com
i'm starting the process of copying and pasting all posts from these old blogs into the new one, but it will take some time.

the home stretch
yes, it's finally here. the beginning of the end of this seemingly infinite pregnancy. everybody together now..."WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
i had a doctor's appointment last thursday and i asked her to check me because i've been so uncomfortable that i figured something MUST be happening in there, progress must be being made somehow. but, i was wrong. cervix long and closed, as it should be at 34 weeks 5 days. she did say that it had softened, which is a good sign of impending progress. so, next time i go back i will be 36 weeks 5 days, and something better be going on in there at that point.
i've pledged not to bitch and moan (too much) about how uncomfortable i am, but i can't stop. this is way worse than i ever felt with abby. everything hurts. my lower back spasms, my ligaments have reached their critical limit, the braxton-hicks contractions don't stop, and it feels like the baby is stabbing my cervix with a knife.
let's all hold hands and direct our mental energy at baba ghannouj and my uterus, saying together, "it's safe now, you can come out. come out NOW." yeah, maybe that'll work.

baby baby baby baby
nothing new from the land of baba ghannouj. still moving around quite a bit, but mostly on either end. either jamming feet into my ribcage or banging on my cervix with a baseball bat. i start going to the doctor every 2 weeks now instead of every month, and things are definitely in the home stretch. 1 month from today i'll be considered full-term and they wouldn't stop labor if it happens, and my due date is less than 2 months away. not much time left! i've washed many baby clothes, and am getting all the other stuff ready to go too. next task: pack the hospital bag.

dude!
ok, i'm really not sure what's been going on in my uterus the past couple of days. i had just been thinking that the activity level had gone down and that maybe he/she was running out of room already. but, the past 2 days or so, TOTAL SPAZ-OUT. i got up last night around 3 or so to go to the bathroom, and when i went back to bed, it took me forever to get back to sleep because BG was doing aerobics or remodeling or hosting a rave in there. i would lay on my side, and i would feel the craziness on the upper and lower sides AT THE SAME TIME. spaz.

baba ghannouj's favorite foods
jelly bellies
roundy's brand "european soda", limeade flavor
steak
sweet corn salsa
frozen coke
frozen mountain dew
lattes
baby's been busy in there lately...i think he/she may actually be building some sort of fort. he/she has stellar aim, too...favorite targets for the kicking are my bladder and my cervix. it's pleasant stuff. hopefully only slightly more than 2 months to go.

third trimester
so, sunday marks the beginning of my last trimester. as happy as i am about that, i'm also realizing that the most uncomfortable part is just beginning. so, i'm glad i've spent the last 24 weeks complaining about how uncomfortable i am. :) it's all downhill from here...
in awesome news, i had my test this week for gestational diabetes. i was 1 point away from having it in my pregnancy with abby, so i had pretty much thrown in the towel this time, being sure that i had it. but, not so! this time i was 39 points away from having it! so, i'm very very excited now, and thrilled at the prospect of not having to deal with the diet modifications and the possible HUGE baby that would result from having GD. so, woohoo!

aaaaaand...VENT!
ok, i don't understand why this baby hates me. i provide a nice warm home and food...and i think i do well. but, still, this baby hates me. it makes me lightheaded when i'm out in the heat so that i almost pass out, it makes my legs feel like they're coming apart from my hip joints, it makes my lower back hurt, it makes me cranky. i don't know why, and i can NOT believe that i still have slightly over 3 months to go. i am seriously not going to be mobile or fit to be around.
grrrr.
**this is all true, but it's not really as bad as it seems. all is normal, i'm just complaining. :)

moving along
sorry it's been a while since i've updated here. there just really hasn't been that much going on with the baby lately. :) it's moving around more and more every day, and is definitely starting to get more violent with its movements, so that's been interesting. and the belly is really starting to get in the way...abby keeps running into it accidentally, and accidentally hitting it and all sorts of stuff because it's just OUT THERE and she can't avoid it. :)
my next appointment is august 9th, at which point i'll be 26 weeks 3 days.

22 weeks and all is well...
had my regular OB appointment on tuesday. baby is doing AWESOME. i'm measuring right on for where i am, which is surprising because i feel ginormous. but, the last couple of days have been great because baba ghannouj is finally getting moving in there. i'd been feeling little taps and minor things for a couple of weeks, but lately? he/she is spazzing out in there. :) so, that's been really nice, and eases my mind a bit. i'm sure in a couple of weeks, though, i'll be posting that i'm sick of being kicked all the time and that i wish things would calm down in there. :)

a big piece of beef
so, there hasn't been much going on on the baba ghannouj front. he/she has gotten much more active, so that's been good. i have my next OB appointment tomorrow, and i have tons of questions, of course. so, i will update after the appointment.

ultrasound!
everything went awesome at the ultrasound! i wasn't uncomfortable having to pee (for once), and the tech was very nice. everything is normal and healthy with the baby and it's looking GREAT! baby weighs 11 ounces, which is on the high end of normal, and is measuring a couple of days ahead in most ways. it moved around a LOT, which caused some problems for the tech, but it all worked out. it was sucking its thumb at one point, too. :)
and yes, we now know the sex. the tech isn't positive, but is reasonably sure. and no, we're not telling you. so ha ha. :) i'll upload the ultrasound pictures a little later.

test results...
...got the results back from the quad screen test. it tests for down's syndrome, spina bifida, and some other stuff that i don't really remember. but anyway, i don't need to know because the baby's just fine. woohoo! a fine baby! now we have the ultrasound and then the rest of the pregnancy will be gravy. :)

woo!
i got my way! my ultrasound is scheduled for monday! i can't believe that in only 5 days we'll find out what we're having! exclamation points!!

observation
you know what's really dumb? maternity shirts that don't stretch. why would anyone buy or even make these? ok, so you buy a shirt. it's cute, it fits. a month later, does it still fit? NO! because your belly's gotten bigger, but the shirt can't handle it. it makes no sense. so, only buy maternity shirts in cotton knit. stretchy stretch.

baby wants some BRATS!
so this weekend is the annual madison brat fest. this is an event we look forward to every year, and we miss the days when it was twice a year (memorial day weekend and labor day weekend). i have been craving brats like you wouldn't believe, so baba ghannouj is going to get what he/she wants. with lots of sauerkraut, onion, and spicy mustard. mmm...ok, i'm hungry now. and you know what would go really well with those brats? beer. sigh.

2nd appointment
i had my 2nd prenatal appointment yesterday and all is well. baby is measuring right on schedule, heartbeat is great, everything's good. i'm not feeling the greatest, but i'm starting to come to terms with the fact that it just might be that way this time around. sigh.
oh, and parenthetically...
happy birthday to me. :)

woohoo!
as of tomorrow, my first trimester is OVAH! take that, nausea! take that, bone-crunching tiredness! take that, food aversions! no? those are here to stay? sigh. poor hot dogs and krunchers brand potato chips.
anyway, for reals, everything is going well. abby's getting more and more excited about being a big sister. we've pretty much decided that we're finding out the sex of the baby this time around, but ha ha ha, we're not going to share it with everyone. we're definitely not sharing it with abby because she knows the name choices and would open her big mouth way too much. :) we have 3 names for each sex right now, and it is now the final list. in about 6 weeks, 3 names will become moot.

11w4d
so, i think i might have felt the baby move last night! i'm not sure, though...it's super-early for that, and it could have been anything. but it was exciting anyway. :)
i'm still getting the occasional nausea, but my appetite seems to have stabilized. 3 days until the magical 12-week mark when everything gets better. counting down....now.

first appointment
i had my first official prenatal appointment today, at 10 weeks 2 days. everything went great, and i got to hear the baby's heartbeat too.
nausea? yep, still. insatiable hunger? yep, that too. wearing maternity clothes? yep, exclusively. gained any weight? nope, lost 6 pounds.

9 weeks
well, it's definitely true that you start showing earlier with subsequent pregnancies. i showed fairly early with abby, around 13-14 weeks or so. but, i'm already showing at 9 weeks now. i don't think it's enough that you would notice if you didn't know i was pregnant, but it's definitely there. i can feel everything stretching in there, especially in the last couple of days, and i notice a difference even just day to day.
luckily, i got 3 bags of maternity clothes from jenny today...woohoo! some were mine that i lent her, but most were hers. so, yay for new clothes. so much yay, in fact, that the only thing i'll probably have to buy is a dress for the 2 weddings we have going on this summer. and i have my eye on one at motherhood maternity already. :)
still yo-yoing back and forth between the nausea and the CRAZY hunger. hunger is definitely the majority these days, though, which is good.

cautious optimism
no nausea for 2 days now. this is good. what has replaced the nausea?
intense, unrelenting, all-consuming HUNGER.
food? who has food? give me food.
in non-food news, check out the ticker at the bottom of the page. it allows you to see how many weeks/days old pee-wee is, and also gives you a little tidbit about his/her development.

eat eat eat eat
what does pee-wee like to eat?
beef, especially a BIG steak.
sorbet
lemon ice from culver's
popsicles
anything citrus, pretty much.
bacon cheeseburger
sushi...just california roll, though, unfortunately.
ok, i'm so hungry now that this list could go on for days. time to eat.

ultrasound
so the ultrasound went great. it was super-fast, even. :)
there is 1 little peanut in there (thank goodness it's only 1) with a great heartbeat. everything's looking wonderful, and my due date only changed by 1 day. now it's november 11...11/11. :)
wooooo!!

check it out!!
all right, all right...i know the picture is blurry, but i certainly hope you get the idea. yes, abby is going to be a big sister! the tentative due date for right now is november 10, but we have our first ultrasound on thursday and that due date will most likely change after that. so, don't get too attached to it. :)
we're way excited and hoping for a smooth pregnancy. i had morning sickness for 5 days and now it's gone, so that's a good sign. the food aversions are hitting hard and making for some interesting meals, but so far so good.
thanks for visiting the blog of the newest member of the rogers family, and check back often for updates!
